Boulevard Macacha Güemes

The Boulevard Macacha Güemes is one of the five avenues that enter Puerto Madero from the center of Buenos Aires, through rotating bridges that cross over the artificial dikes. Originally it was a section of Cangallo street, then called Lieutenant General Perón.

The sector of Puerto Madero that crossed was built during the 1890s, and inaugurated in stages: Dike 3 in 1892 and Dike 4 in 1897. The port was completed in 1898, and Cangallo was the most central access, passing a few blocks from the Casa Rosada.

In 1984, he was given the name of Lieutenant General Juan D. Perón, and in 1995 acquired the Macacha Güemes, by Ordinance No. 49,668, in tribute to the sister of General Martin Miguel de Güemes. In 1997, the street was completely remodeled and transformed into a wide bulevard with central squares forested with old trees and traversed by trails of tiles.

Macacha Güemes begins when Perón Street crosses Avenida Eduardo Madero and enters Puerto Madero, but just after crossing the rotating bridge widens and begins the bulevard, which ends in a small square next to the Intendente Giralt Avenue, which marks the edge of the neighborhood.
