Oscar Verbeeck


Oscar Verbeeck (Saint Joost-ten-Node, June 6, 1891 -?, August 13, 1971) was a Belgian football player who played as a defender. He played in First Class at Club Brugge and Union Sint-Gillis and played 27 international with the Belgian football team with which he became an Olympic champion in 1920.Théo Verbeeck is his older brother. Verbeeck debuted in 1908 at the age of 18 as a defender in the first team of Club Brugge and immediately acquired a base. The team played in the First Class and ended in the top 5 of the final ranking. He continued playing football until 1912.

Union Sint-Gillis drew Verbeeck. In 1913 and 1914 he won the Cup of Belgium with the team. After the league resumed after World War I, Verbeeck became Union's national champion in 1923. He continued playing football until 1926 when he scored a point behind his top-level career. In total Verbeeck played 254 games in First Class and scored one goal.

Between 1914 and 1924 Verbeeck played 27 matches with the Belgian football team. He participated in the Olympic Summer Games in Antwerp in 1920 and joined the team Olympic champion. Verbeeck also took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, where he made his own goal in the match against Sweden, who lost 8-1.

After his career career, Verbeeck was a time trainer in provincial football at, amongst others, RAFC Orp.
