Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. (until 1992 Science Fiction Writers of America, both with acronym SFWA) is an American organization of science fiction and fantasy writers, editors and artists. The organization was founded in 1965 by Damon Knight.
A writer must have published at least one novel or three short stories to become a member. Membership is not restricted to Americans. SFWA currently has more than 1200 members.
SFWA allocates the Nebula Award for novels and shorter stories each year. Also, the Bradbury Award for Best Screenplay and the Author Emeritus Award for an older writer whose work is little published or overlooked. Finally, the gifted Nebula Grand Master Award (nowadays under the name of the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award) is awarded for the complete work in SF and / or fantasy. Externe link
