Apellániz (in the Basque Apinaiz and officially Apellaniz / Apinaiz) is a small town of 88 inhabitants that is part of the municipality of Arraya-Maestu, in the province of Álava, Basque Country (Spain).

It is located in a plain valley about five kilometers long, at the foot of the Izki mountains, now declared Natural Park. It is 28 km from Vitoria. The village is accessed via a local road linking it with the A-132 (Vitoria-Estella) road.

Apellaniz was a town of the lordship of the Count of Castrofuerte, who had the power to choose the mayor among the three candidates proposed by the neighbors. It was administratively independent until 21 of February of 1958 merged with Arraya and Laminoria to constitute a new municipality denominated Maestu. The old municipality had an extension of 16.58 km ² and at the moment of its integration in Maestu counted on near 225 inhabitants. Currently the council of Apellániz has about 105 inhabitants.

It stands out for its rich architecture and emblazoned buildings. The Palace of the Neira stands out, whose name originated in the general Santiago de Neira and Martínez (1862-1950), belonging to a noble family, of Orsian origin and acrisolated Carlist fidelity, who married the head of the house, Doña Inocencia Franco y de Yurre (1866-1953), and the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, with a Romanesque doorway with very pointed arches and a stately tower, built between the 17th and 18th centuries; Rococo-style main altar, by the Victor Manuel de Moraza. There are some sculptures by Gregorio Valdivieso and Juan Antonio Moraza as well as embroidered s. XVI and a relic of the Lignum Crucis.

The village has a social center, pediment and bowling alley. Their parties are celebrated on March 23 by Santo Toribio, although they are usually moved to the first weekend of April.
