Ludwig Roselius

Ludwig Roselius

Ludwig Gerhard Wilhelm Roselius (born June 2, 1874 in Bremen - died May 15, 1943 in Berlin) is a German patron of the early twentieth century who made a fortune in the coffee trade. He is the founder of Kaffee Hag (Café Sanka in France).

As a patron, he supported several leading artists, such as Paula Modersohn-Becker and Bernhard Hoetger. He is also responsible for the famous Böttcherstraße in Bremen, which has become a tourist attraction because of its many museums, places of cultural activities and architectural daring. Conservative politically, he welcomed the rise of National Socialism and the arrival of Adolf Hitler in power, which he met privately in Bremen in 1923.

An art gallery in Bremen now bears its name.
