He was with his brother, Iampsas, during his father's triumphal parade in 104 BC. His father died shortly after, and Oxyntas was sent to the town of Venusia, in the Italian region of Basilicata, to which he remained until 89 BC. During the March war, Gaius Papius Mutilus used Oxyntas to force the defections of the Numidian troops serving General Roman Sextus Julius Caesar, a large part of the Numidians, saw the son of their former king, deserted the ranks of Sextus Julius Caesar.
