Philip Stubbs

Philip Stubbs (1555-1610), was an English pamphleteer born around 1555.

He studied at the University of Cambridge and later at the University of Oxford, but without graduating, spending most of his time traveling around the country. He began writing about 1581, and in 1583 he published "The Anatomy of Abuses." This work consisted of a virulent attack on education, customs, amusements and fashions of the time, being today very valuable for its abundant information on the issues of that time. In 1591 he published "A Christal Glass for Christian Women", of which seven editions were made and later followed with other semi-devotional works. He probably died around 1610.
