The Legacy (Iron Maiden song)

For other uses The Legacy

The Legacy is the tenth and final song of Iron Maiden's album A matter of life and death.

Written by Steve Harris and Janick Gers, The Legacy begins an almost inaudible intro, to then transform into a fast song, much of the traditional Iron Maiden style; in the end a new transformation takes place, returning to the soft guitar chords. The voice of Bruce Dickinson on a very high note, very sharp, and the guitars followed by the powerful bass of Harris, make this a suitable song to finish the album, long and great. Unlike other songs from Iron Maiden's album finale, it looks nothing like Alexander the Great or Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The lyrics would like to leave a farewell message from the album, an awareness message to despise the war. It has been performed live only on the entire album tour.
