The Treaty of Saint-Germain, signed on October 26 and 27, 1635 during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), commits Louis XIII to provide Duke Bernard of Saxe-Weimar commanding the Protestant armies of Germany the means to maintain an army of 18,000 men against the Catholic Imperials, as well as the rights and possessions of the Habsburgs in Alsace in a personal capacity (including the great bailiwick of Haguenau on which depend the ten imperial cities of the Decapolis). >
