Joseph Coymans (1656-1720)


Joseph Coymans (August 9, 1656 - September 7, 1720) was a member of Coymans firm, located at Keizersgracht 177. He was married to Clara Valckenier, a daughter of Gillis Valckenier. He was merchant, Beemster's dike digger, osseweider, captain in the shooter (1686) and governor of the West Indian Company; He lived on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. The couple certainly had eight children:

Joseph could not go along with his brother Elias, after pulling a party in 1659 for his sister Aletta. In 1678 he was visiting Ambassador Jacob Boreel with his sick cousin Johannes Huydecoper and Pieter de Graeff in Paris. Huydecoper has been promoted in Orleans. In 1706, upon the death of his sister Eliana, Joseph became the heir of the grave in Voorburg, which caused remarkable family complications.
