Anacostia (rivier)


The Anacostia is a short river flowing through Prince George's County in the US state of Maryland and the capital Washington D.C.

The river has a length of only 13.5 km after the confluence of the two feeding side arms. It broadcasts through the Washington Channel in the Potomac. The drainage area of ​​the river covers about 456km.

John Smith was the first European to feed the river in 1608 and the river was named after the local indian tribes. During the American Civil War, the river was important in the defense of the capital and a line of fortresses was built along the river.
