Nasi goreng is a dish of rice typical of Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine, it is a version of fried rice, which is what it means in both languages: Indonesian and Malay. Variants

The main difference when compared to fried rice is that it is cooked with sweet soy sauce (kecap manis). It is usually accompanied by additional foods, such as fried egg, fried chicken, satay or keropok. When accompanied by a fried egg, it is known as nasi goreng special. The dish is also very popular in Singapore.

Outside Asia, this dish is prepared in most countries where there is a significant population contingent of Southeast Asian origin. It is very popular in the Netherlands, where it is said that the dish was adopted from local people during the time of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).
