Lashkar-e-Toiba


Lashkar-e-Toiba (Urdu: لشكر طيبه laškar-ĕ ṯaiyyiba, literally "Army of the Pure", also transliterated internationally in English as Lashkar-i-Tayyaba, Lashkar-e-Tayyaba) is a radical Islamist movement originating in Kashmir. It is the military arm of Markaz Dawa-Wal-Irshad, the Islamist party in the region. Its leader is Mohammed Latif. History

He was formed in Afghanistan in 1990, but his first actions in Kashmir date back to 1993, in cooperation with the Islami Inquilabi Mahaz movement. As of 1997, its activity begins to be important. The leader of the group, Abu Muwaih, died in combat on December 30, 1999. From that year, he began to practice suicide attacks against the bases of the Indian forces.

In 2008, he came on the scene as an organization suspected of having participated in the November 2008 bombings in Mumbai.
