Śauraseni


The śauraseni (or shauraseni) is a prácrita language used like main language in the drama in the northern kingdoms of medieval India. Most of the documents come from the III to X centuries. C, although as a colloquial language may have stopped using towards the fifth century BC. C. Their modern descendants include the various varieties of Hindi, other varieties of Central Eastern inodarias, the Hindustani language that is based on the Khariboli dialect and the Punjabi.

The Jain acharyas of the Digambara sect wrote their works in śauraseni. Satkhandagama and Ksyaayapahud are two of the main Jain epics written in śauraseni.
