Carlos de Provence

Charles de Provence (c.840 - 25 January 863) was a French nobleman, king of Provence and Burgundy Cisjurana from 855 until his death, premature, in 863.

Charles was the younger son of Ermengarda of Tours and Lotario I, Carolingian emperor, who distributed his dominions of the Middle France or Lotaringia between his three children: the first-born, Luis, received Italy and the imperial title; Lotario II inherited Lotaringia (modern Lorraine, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) and the smaller, Carlos, who received the Upper and Lower Burgundy (Arles and Provence).

In the year 860, Charles of Provence defeated his uncle, Charles the Bald, who had tried to conquer his kingdom.

At his death his brother Louis inherited his kingdom.
