The 3-4 defense is a defensive tactical scheme for American football. He is so named because there are 3 defensive linemens (2 defensive ends and a defensive tackle named nose tackle) and 4 linebackers. Less powerful to stop the races, it is against a more suitable solution for short passes. It does however require more mobile players.
This scheme became popular in the 2000s in the National Football League (NFL), gradually replacing the 4-3 defense that substitutes a linebacker for a defensive tackle.
