ghetto Blaster

A gettoblaster is a large to very large portable radio cassette recorder, with two powerful loudspeakers capable of producing a lot of sound. It was typically a product from the late seventies to mid-eighties. In addition to power supply, the device could also be powered by a large number of batteries for outdoor use. The nickname gettoblaster or boombox got the device because some music lovers made public publicity of their musical p , mostly disco or early dance. From the mid-1980s, it slowly disappeared from the street scene and received smaller-sized radio cassette recorders, often with built-in CD player.

The stereo is not portable and the walkman is for one person. The gettoblaster is in between. The advantage was that you could carry a complete sound system with reasonable music to an open space where you came together with friends to make your own atmosphere with music. The device was often used by breakdancers who exhibited their arts on streets and squares.

Not everyone was used to the sound of these devices that were often heard in hangouts. Models Different models of gettoblasters

Some noteworthy models from early to mid-eighties: Aesthetics

The popularity of large portable stereo systems declined in the early 1990s and few models are currently being manufactured. The rectangular devices with many chrome of the eighties models were replaced by black plastic in the 90's, and the more modern designs got more round shapes.
