José Aldana


José Manuel Aldana (Valladolid, 1730-Mexico City, 1810), was a composer, violinist, harpsichordist and orchestra director from New Spain. He was the author of numerous religious works.

In 1786 he started as a violinist of the orchestra of the Coliseo de México. His music was preserved in the Cathedral of Mexico and in the Church of Santa Rosa de Morelia. His style has a strong Haydn influence. He has a Mass that was interpreted by Carlos Chávez in New York in 1940. Sources
