Nicolas Huyghebaert


Nicolas Huyghebaert (Kortrijk, December 22, 1912 - Bruges, November 20, 1982) born Norbert Huyghebaert was a Catholic priest, Benedictine and historian. Lifecycle

Huyghebaert became a bachelor of the University of Leuven in philosophy and did not complete his studies in law. He entered the Benedictine monastery of Saint Andries in Bruges in 1935, where he was dedicated to the priest in 1940. In 1944 he became a licentiate in Leuven and in 1975 he studied in Louvain-la-Neuve. In this last university he became a teacher in medieval church history. In his abbey he became prior. He became a member of the board of the Society for History in Bruges in 1949 and became editor in 1971. Dom Huhhebaert was also active in the leading magazines 'Revue d'Histoire Ecclésiastique', 'Scriptorium' and 'Revue Benedictine'. He was the main editor of the four West Flemish volumes of the work 'Monasticon belge' (1960-1978). Publications
