Death is my job

La mort est mon métier is a book by French author Robert Merle from 1952.

This book describes the life of the commander of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, using the fictional character Rudolf Lang. The writer immediately adds it to his preface, which was added to his book only in 1972: "Rudolf Lang a existé. Il s'appelait and réalité Rudolf Hoess, a commanding officer of the camp of Auschwitz."

The book is made up of seven chapters, all of which bear a vintage, and it begins in 1913 and ends in 1945.

The book begins with the description of the relationship between Rudolf and his extremely authoritarian father. His father had some sort of distant relationship with his son. There were hardly any feelings when looking at it. Hence, that may also be the reason for the lack of feelings that the main character develops itself.
