Sigi

Sigi is a character from the Sigurd cycle appearing in the Völsunga saga (1-2). He is the ancestor of the Völsungar.

Sigi is the son of Odin. His name, built on old Norse sig: "victory", could come from the fact that Odin was, in particular, god of victory (Sigtýr).

He killed and hid the body of Bredi, a slave who had been a better hunter than him. The murder was discovered by the master of Bredi, Skadi (namesake of the goddess of the hunt). Sigi was then declared outlaw (vargr í veum). This episode could be based on a myth that has disappeared.

Sigi left the country under the leadership of Odin, who provided him with ships and troops. He led successful raids, and eventually conquered Húnaland. He was a powerful king and a great warrior. He got married and had a son named Rerir.

Sigi became old. He was very envious and was eventually killed by his wife's brothers, who attacked him by surprise. Rerir was not present, and he could avenge his father. Noteschange the code
