First Dusseljee


Elso Dusseljee (Stadskanaal, 19 June 1881 - Menton, 1964) was a Dutch / Belgian pioneer and entrepreneur.

Elso Dusseljee, son of the butcher Jan Dusseljee and Roelfina Dopper (a cousin of the composer Cornelis Dopper) did not finish his education in Groningen but left as explorer to French Equatorial Africa.

He was an opponent of cannibalism and slave trade. He became a Belgian citizen and established a trade post in Central Africa. He turned this into a company, of which he became the director. In 1920 he joined one of Unilever's precursors, becoming director and director general and general manager in Belgium-Congo respectively. Awards
