Irus, or Iros, ancient Greek Ἶρος, is a character of the Odyssey. He is a beggar in Ithaca, renowned for his great size and gluttony. His real name was Arnaeus, ancient Greek Ἀρναῖος; but the lovers of Penelope called him Irus, because he made their messages (from the Greek eirein, to speak). As he insulted Odysseus, and wanted, without knowing it, to defend him the entrance of his palace, the hero killed him with a fist. Sourcemode the code
