Meinwerk

Four times a year there is the possibility for a referendum in Switzerland. A referendum can be held on parliamentary decisions or on a citizens' initiative (see Politics in Switzerland).

This is an overview of various national referenda held. Referenda at canton or municipal level are not listed here.

2009

In 2009, the following days will be reserved for national referenda: February 8, 2009, May 17, 2009, September 27, 2009 and November 29, 2009. 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004

2004 began badly for the Swiss Confederation. Some of the referendums were lost and were rejected by the people. A popular initiative was also adopted, which the council was against. The adoption of a popular initiative is quite special, which does not happen so often. 2003

2003 was marked by a voting Sunday with 8 subjects. Overall commentary is that this was really too much. Initiatives that cost money in this year are no chance. 2002 Externe link drink II and, on the other hand, the great legacy he fell from his parents. The relatively poor diocese Paderborn also benefited from this. Meinwerk rebuilt the Paderborn Cathedral (dedication in 1015), founded the Abdinghof monastery and the busdorf stift and reformed the church organization in its diocese.

As a government, he formed an important support for Emperor's politics. He regularly participated in government meetings, court days and episcopal synods. Three times he went to Rome, where he was eyewitness of the coronation to the emperor of Hendrik II in 1014 and of Koenraad II in 1027. The emperors showed Meinwerk their gratitude by regularly visiting his diocese and transferring large portions of the Haold II and Dodiko counties when they arrived at 1011 and 1020 respectively after their death. Hendrik II visited Paderborn and the palaces there seven times, Koenraad II even eight times, both especially at church festivals.

Shortly after the dedication of the monastery Busdorf established by him in May 1036, Meinwerk died on 5 June of that year. He was buried in the chapel of Abdinghof, which he founded in 1014. When that monastery was lifted in 1810, his sarcophagus was transferred to the church of Busdorf. There it is on the high chorus. Part of his bones was restored in 1936 in the crypt of the Paderborn Cathedral under a tombstone. Meinwerk is honored in the Roman Catholic Church. His memorial day falls on his death day, June 5th.

Meinwerks life was described in 1165 by Abt Koenraad of Abdinghof (1142 and 1173) in the Vita Meinwerci, which is an important source for the events in the last years of the Liudolfingen. Externe link
