Revelation Sulaeman Rendra

Wahyu Sulaeman Rendra, eig. Willibrordus Surendra Broto Rendra (Surakarta, November 7, 1935 - Jakarta, August 6, 2009) was an Indonesian poet and plays director.

Rendra belonged to the group "Angkatan '50". As one of the few Indonesian poets, Rendra was often on the list of candidates for the Nobel Prize for Literature. He gave the Indonesian a new dimension through his lucid, seemingly simple, but very effective word usage. After spending a few years in the United States, he returned to Djokjakarta in 1966. However, he became famous for his theater-based "Bengkel". Rendra was also a leading opponent of the regime of President Suharto (1967-1998) and was in prison for several months in 1978.

Rendra provided various presentations in the Netherlands, as in 1991 during the "Indonesia Nu Festival" at the Royal Institute of Tropics in Amsterdam. Working (selection) Sources
