Sinodia

Sinodia (Hungarian: Szünadéné) (13 May 1058 - 20 December 1082) Queen Consort of Hungary, wife of King Géza I of Hungary. Biography

Sinodia was born on May 12, 1058 by the Byzantine noble Sidonius Theodore and his Phrygian wife of unknown name. When the still prince Géza overcame the Byzantine armies in Belgrade in 1073 and allowed the enemy soldiers to return home, by way of gratitude the Byzantine emperor Miguel VII Ducas sent him the daughter of the older sister of his military commander Nicephorus Botaniates. Thus, on August 2, 1072 Géza took Sinodia, the daughter of Nicephorus (who later became a Byzantine emperor) as his wife. Sinodia became the second wife of Géza and from this marriage only one daughter, Catalina (Esztergom 1076 - Constantinople June 4, 1122) was born.

Sinodia died on December 20, 1082 about 5 years after her husband was buried in Székesfehérvár.
