The Corona Navalis, (Latin: Shipwreck) was a great award for Roman soldiers. She was granted to the soldier who first conquered an enemy ship or jumped over an enemy board. She looked like a golden laurel wreath with woven ramstevens.

Initially, only a consul could win this award if he conquered an enemy fleet as an admiral. Marcus Terentius Varro got her from Pompeii in the pirate war. There are coins of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa on which he can be seen with a Corona Navalis. Picture of Agrippa with the corona navalis on a bronze medal

The Corona navalis is used in heraldry as a crest or crown on a number of weapons. Among other things, the British former town of Rochester upon Medway had a nautical crown on the arm.
