Gustavo Orcés


Gustavo Orcés Villagómez (Quito, 1903 - 1999) was an Ecuadorian zoologist.

He was educated at San Gabriel College, and at the Universidad Central he developed a thesis on the biological and physiological characteristics of sea fish, which was awarded. He was a teacher at the Mejía school and at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional. He dedicated himself to research, and pioneered Herpetology in Ecuador. He then went on to study the species of Ecuadorian birds, classified them and collected them in the most valuable equatorial ornithological series. He also discovered several species of animals, some of which bear his name in the universal scientific nomenclature. The Museum of Natural History of the National Polytechnic School of Quito (MHNGO), bears his name in honor of him ..
