Phan Chau Trinh

Phan Chu Trinh or Phan Chau Trinh (1872, Tay Loc, Quang Nam - March 24, 1926, Saigon) was a revolutionary nationalist leader of Vietnam.

He fought as a child in the resistance movement against the French, he believed that modernization was a prerequisite for the development of an autonomous state and thus in this way he made renewal his main objective. He insisted on replacing the system of public administration with vocational schools and companies, but his attempts to persuade the French to undertake major reforms failed and Trinh was twice imprisoned. He was saved as a national hero after his death.
