A ribbing, also a dummy (Lipoatrophia Semicircularis), is a skin condition on the front of the thighs, which results from a local decrease of the subcutaneous connective tissue. The skin and muscle tissue remain intact.
Apart from an optically present dent or rib, the condition is harmless. The ribs are about 2 to 4 centimeters deep and are approximately 72 centimeters above the ground - the standard height of office furniture.
The exact cause of the disease is not yet known. However, research seems to indicate that the condition is created under very specific circumstances. A combination of electrostatic agencies seems to be the main cause. Under the influence of electromagnetic fields present in the desk, the subcutaneous connective tissue is broken down in a few months. Local pressure is also designated as a cause. The thighs are located near the desk wall, which can easily be pushed against it, and this could cause the problem, according to some investigations.
