The Bene Gesserit is a fictional order in the Duin universe of Frank Herbert. The order consists of sisters and reverend mothers, all of whom have had a thorough training in the control of body and mind. They depend on the specie, a mind-wasting and life-prolonging but also addictive substance, for many of their skills, including the art of distinguishing the flawless truth of lies. Reverend Mothers of the Bene Gesserit possess a memorable ritual of all the memories of their female predecessors and ancestors, referred to as the Other Memories. However, they can not look into the memories of their male ancestors, and men are also unable to undergo the required ritual. By crossing the right people, one ultimately hopes to create a man, the Kwisatz Haderach, who can, and that allows the Bene Gesserit to see the male "race memories" and to predict the future and to manipulate. The Lady Jessica Atreides is a Bene Gesserit sister, married to Duke Leto Atreides.
