Jean II d'Auschwitz


John II of Oświęcim (in Polish Jan II Oświęcimski), of the Piasts dynasty, was born around 1330 and died in 1375 or in 1376. He was Duke of Oświęcim from 1372 to 1375/6.

John II is the only son of Jean I the Scolastic and his first wife whose identity is unknown. Even while his father is alive, he exercises power with him.

He became the true ruler of the Oświęcim Duchy after the death of his father in 1372. On October 9, 1372, his overlord, King of Bohemia Wenceslas IV, confirmed him as Duke of Oświęcim. John II designates the Duke of Cieszyn Przemyslaw I as successor. John III being already born at this time, we can think that it was intended for a religious career.

John II of Oświęcim died between June 1, 1375 and October 8, 1376. He is buried in the church of the Oświęcim Dominicans.
