Voortrekkers (youth organization)

Voortrekkers has developed its identity based on what is considered its ABC: Afrikanerskap, Burgerskap, Christenskap (Africanity, Citizenship, Christianity, in Afrikaans).

Voortrekkers is an Afrikaans language organization founded in South Africa in 1931. < / p>

The Voortrekkers Foundation coincided with the growth of Afrikaner nationalism in South Africa, which by then was a British colony. In a way, it was presented as an alternative in Afrikaans to the largely English-speaking Boy Scouts movement, of its British heritage and tradition. However, the Voortrekker program was substantially more nationalistic and religious than the Scout program.

From an organizational point of view, the Voortrekkers are divided into a series of gebiede (areas) corresponding to the provinces of South Africa existing before 1994, in addition to Namibia, which in turn are subdivided into oorde (districts) and then in kommandos (commands). Each kommando consists of a series of spanne (teams).
