Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade

The Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade is the former youth group of the Revolutionary Communist Party of the United States. Originally founded as the Attica Brigade, it later became the revolutionary student brigade. His uniform included T-shirts with a big red star on which appeared a young man with a rifle. Some included the message "I was born in the sewer called capitalism, but I live for the revolution".

His founding conference took place in 1977, where the main speech was given by the Revolutionary Communist Party president, Bob Avakian. In later years the brigade tried to make alliances with anarchist groups and other leftist forces, with mixed results.

The most famous member of the brigade was Gregory "Joey" Johnson. During the National Convention of the Republican Party of 1984, held in Dallas, Texas he burned an American flag in protest against the policies of the Ronald Reagan administration. Johnson was arrested and sentenced to one year in jail, managing to cancel his conviction on appeal. The State of Texas appealed that decision before the Supreme Court of the United States. In this new case, Texas against Johnson the court ruled that his act was protected by the First Amendment, because it is an expressive act. The decision also invalidated laws that prohibited the desecration of the American flag, strictly speaking, in 48 of the 50 states at the time of sentencing.
