Y-wing

The Y-wings (Y-Wing) are attack single-seater craft in the original Star Wars trilogy movies.

As its name indicates, it has the shape of a Y. It is an attack ship equipped with two laser cannons in front of the cabin and a rotating ion cannon in its upper part. It has an R2 unit that helps the pilot with control of the ship. The pilots of the Y-Wings are designated gold along with a number. This powerful ship has been the key in the space battles of Yavin 4 and Endor.

It is the most important fighter-bomber of the Rebel Alliance during the times of the Galactic Civil War. The Y-wing has the unfortunate reputation of being the most demolished ship in the battles against the Empire, although it must be taken into account that it is also the most "available" fighter and with more time in service of the entire rebel fleet.

The Ala-Y is not a fast or spectacular ship, however it does its job. Designed to be an assault ship, the fighter is equipped with two powerful laser cannons in the rear, two proton torpedo launchers and a loading hatch to launch bombs or other weapons charges. Do not forget either the upper ion cannon mounted behind the cockpit cockpit. This weapon emits bursts of ions that, instead of destroying the target, disables its electronic circuits for its subsequent capture.

Although its speed and maneuverability is lower than that of the X-wing (it has problems with agile TIE fighters or TIE interceptors), the defensive capacity of its deflector shields and the firing power of its armament make it even more in a deadly assault ship. And if we add its hypervelocity we will find in the Ala-Y a valuable weapon of the Rebellion that despite the years it has been in service still proves to be a formidable fighter bomber.

Later it will be replaced by the top space fighter-bomber Ala-B, however there will still be Ala-Y in service in some rebel squads.
