Cave of Morín

The cave of Morín or cave of the King is in the municipality of Villaescusa (Cantabria, Spain). Archaeological sites dating from the Châtelperronian period, belonging to the Middle Paleolithic, have been found. Likewise, vestiges of those who inhabited it have been found, such as the famous body cast of the so-called Morín man. Thanks to the testimonies in this cavern, the customs of previous hominids have been studied.

Here the remains of a rectangular structure separated from a burial space by several post holes were discovered. Several pits were also found in which there were some bodies preserved as molds in the process of fossilization. In this cave, Joaquín González Echegaray archaeologist and historian Joaquín González Echegaray carried out important excavations.
