International Statistical Institute


The International Statistical Institute, based in The Hague, The Netherlands, is an international association that encompasses most of the national statistical offices or agencies in the world. It also operates as an umbrella organization for seven more specialized international associations, such as The International Environmetrics Society (TIES), the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS), the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE), the International Association for Official Statistics (IAAS), the International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC), the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) and the Bernoulli Society (BS).

Every two years, the ISI World Statistics Congress (WSC) is organized in a different country, together with the statistical agency of the host country. History It was founded in London, United Kingdom, in 1885. Relevant figures from the field of statistics who have chaired the institute include Professors Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao (1977-1979) and David Cox (1995-1997).
