Nur Misuari (Jolo, March 3, 1939) is a Filipino militant politician. Misuari is a former Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the President of the Islamic Divorce Movement Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Life

Misuari studied at the University of the Philippines. After graduating, he taught political science at the same university. In the 1960s he founded the Mindanao Independence Movement. The purpose of this movement was to establish an independent Islamic state in the south of the Philippines. This created the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). The MNLF went after vain attempts to reach its goal through political means under the guidance of Misuari, an armed struggle with the Philippine government of Ferdinand Marcos. This armed struggle, between 1972 and 1976, estimated an estimated 80,000 to 200,000 lives. At its peak, the MNLF counted about 30,000 armed fighters. Award

In 1997 he was co-distinguished with Fidel Ramos with the UNESCO Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize.
