Phileus was a prominent Ionian Greek architect, mentioned many times by Vitruvius, who gives various variants of the name but always speaks of the same character. With the name of Phileus he says that he wrote a book about the temple of Minerva in Priene, with the name of Phiteus says that he wrote about the Mausoleum built by himself and by Satyr; in another it mentions to Fitio as the architect of the temple of Minerva in Priene, and in a fourth passage he gives the name of Fiteo (Pythia) as an architect.

The correct form of the name can not be determined but the most likely are the File or Fiteo. As the Mausoleum was erected around 353 BC. C. o 352 a. C., can be placed in century IV a. The temple of Priene would have been built towards the 332 a. C. since it was dedicated by Alexander the Great, and constitutes one of the best examples of Ionian architecture.
