Sylfest Lomheim is a Norwegian philologist born on March 11, 1945 in Hafslo. since 2003 he is director of the Norwegian Language Council, Språkrådet. He is also associate professor in the Norwegian language of the University of Agder and was rector of this university between 1987 and 1992.

Lomheim has done translation work and has written about the standardization of the language. He works at the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation since 1980, both in radio and television.
