Municipal Weapons
Genemuiden is a former Dutch municipality in the province of Overijssel on the river Black Water.
The municipality existed until August 1, 1967, from the core city of Genemuiden, the neighboring lands and towns of Kamperzeedijk-West, Kamperzeedijk-Oost, Afsched, Cellemuiden and Waterstein (the latter later went up in the city of Genemuiden). The former Gemeente Genemuiden was last extended when the municipality of Zwollerkerspel was lifted and distributed over Zwolle, Genemuiden and other surrounding municipalities in 1967.
The municipality ceased to exist after more than 200 years when the new Gemeente Zwartewaterland was created on January 1, 2001, by the merger of the municipalities of Genemuiden, Hasselt and Zwartsluis.
Not long after this redeployment, large-scale riots occurred in Genemuiden, possibly resulting from frustration over this imposed redeployment.
