Sahidisch

Sahidic or Thebanan is an ancient dialect of Coptic from Upper Egypt, not used in use. The Coptic is the final phase of the Egyptian language.

The ancient Coptic literature was almost exclusively written in the Sahidian, especially the translations of Bible books, Apocryphal books and Nag Hammadigeschriften.

In the Dscheme monastery near Thebe in Egypt, many writings were found in this dialect.

The Revelation of John from the New Testament is the only script in the Coptic script that has been preserved so far. With modern excavations in Egypt, fragments are repeated and hope is that one can reconstruct a complete version of the New Testament in the ancient Coptic dialect, the Sahidian. The first fragments originate from the fifth century and are sometimes bilingual. Literature
