Joaquín Campino


Joaquín Campino Salamanca

Joaquín Campino Salamanca (La Serena, February 16, 1788 - Santiago, April 20, 1860) was a Chilean lawyer, son of Andrés Campino and Erazo and Magdalena Salamanca.

He graduated as a lawyer from the University of San Felipe (1812). He was Minister of the Interior and External Relations of the Directory of 1823, 1825 and 1826 (Board of Directors). In 1824 and 1826 he was deputy for Coquimbo.

On December 22, 1824, he was named President of the Congress. He illustrated his name in politics and in letters as a journalist. In 1827 he participated in the so-called Campino uprising and was plenipotentiary minister in the United States, and in 1830 in Mexico. He returned to Chile and in 1840 was deputy substitute for Elqui and in 1846-1849 he was for Rere.
