Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (previously known as Mercedes-Ilmor) is a British Formula 1 manufacturing company owned by Mercedes-Benz. Since 1995, its engines have been used by McLaren F1 cars. For 2009, Mercedes-Benz also supplied its engines to the Brawn GP and Force India teams. Ilmor was founded by Mario Illien and Paul Morgan in 1983 as an independent British F1 manufacturer. The name of the company came from the surnames of the founders. It originally started by building engines for the IndyCar Series with IndyCar owner money and chassis built by Roger Penske. History
In 1991, Ilmor entered F1 as an engine supplier to the Leyton House team (formerly known as March). In 1992, Leyton House returned to its original name and continued using Ilmor's engines. Ilmor also distributed engines to Tyrrell's team that year. Driven by an Ilmor v101, Tyrrell scored 8 points; and March, 3 points.
