Ōnusa.
An ōnusa (大麻, ōnusa) or haraegushi (祓 串, haraegushi) is a magic wand made of sakaki wood, decorated with several shides and used in Shintō ceremonies, specifically in purification rituals.
The way to use an ōnusa is to put it in front of the person or object to be purified and move it from side to side; after the purification the ōnusa receives the impurities and any other kind of pollution.
It should not be confused with the hataki, whose appearance is similar.
