Segmented mirror

This article is a draft about optics.

The mirror technique segmented into optics consists of making a large mirror from smaller and juxtaposed mirrors. This technique is used when the realization of a single very large mirror poses technical problems difficult to surmount. It is used for the realization of primary mirrors of large telescopes, from about 10 m in diameter.

The theoretical curve of the surface of the virtual mirror must be confused with the surfaces of the small mirrors, respecting a nanometric precision. This process therefore requires extremely precise alignment and positioning of each mirror, which is generally computer controlled.
