According to the Kojiki, she was the daughter of Wakumusubi, and in turn the granddaughter of Izanagi, creator of heaven and earth (Wakamusubi was born from the urine of Izanagi, therefore she is not the granddaughter of Izanami, wife of Izanagi) p>

This deity is known for intercession and protection of food and grain; formerly a tribute was paid to him in the province of Tanba, but at the end of the fifth century he was transferred to the Gekū complex within the Shrine of Ise so that he could purify the food that is used as offerings to Amaterasu Ōmikami, goddess of the sun.
