Fruitsest

Decorated fruit test from ca. 1810 with undercook, DAR museum, Yorkshire, England.

A fruit test or fruit is a bowl or jar for fruit. The moisture of fruit or vegetables can leak and through the holes in the fruit test, the fruit stays longer and can ventilate well, which causes the rotting process to start less quickly.

Fruit tests were used in the past, even in the Middle Ages. Nowadays they are still made. They are often provided with a special drawer, also called a dish that collects moisture and then can be discarded. Sometimes they have a lid. They exist in all sorts of sizes, old and new.
