Monte Velino

Mount Velino is the highest peak of the Velino-Sirente chain and the third of the Apennines. It is located in the Abruzzo mountains, a short distance from the border with Lazio, between the Fucino basin and the valleys of the Aterno, Salto and Velino rivers.

Its height is 2486 meters. It is an arid mountain, without roads and has Mount Cafornia beside it. It is inside the Sirente Velino Regional Park.

It is characterized by the presence of ravines and breccias and a desolate and desert aspect, although it also presents a particular flora and vegetation. The fauna is similar to the other mountains of the central Apennines: there are wolves and wild boars.
