The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland is a Scottish scientific association. It was founded by an Edinburgh lawyer, Thomas Hailing Gillespie, in 1909. In 1913, a substantial amount of land was donated to the Society by the Edinburgh Town Council at Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh. This site has become Edinburgh Zoo. The original goal of the company is to:
"To promote, facilitate and encourage the study of zoology and related subjects and to develop the public interest in animals and their knowledge. "
